One of the primary objectives of Women in Thoroughbred Racing NT (WTRNT) is to foster and promote the inclusion of women in the thoroughbred racing industry in the Northern Territory, and to engage and participate on race days.

A great initiative which builds on each of these goals, is to increase the number of female racehorse owners across the Territory, which led WTRNT to facilitate ownership syndicates. When selecting horses to buy into we also work hard to ensure the trainers we work with are showing support for females in the industry within their stable environment. As WTRNT ventures into Alice Springs, look out for our first Alice Springs based syndicate horse in 2022!

Some of our syndicate success stories include Alert the Jeweller, Bo Zephyr, Taciturn, Patriot Day, Don’t Wait, and With Pleasure.

For members who are interested in joining our syndicates, an expression of interest will be sent out whenever we’re looking to buy into a new horse, shares will be sold on a first come, first served basis, so make sure you’re receiving our emails!

Don’t Wait

Don’t Wait, trained by Tayarn Halter joined us in 2019. This gelding has had some amazing successes for us including 5 wins and even more placings. Don’t Wait has performed for us from 1000m up to 1300m and has been a great Carnival performer with numerous placings and a win on Chief Minister’s Cup Day in 2021.

Wild Rover

WTRNT picked up Wild Rover in late 2021 as part of a very generous offer from the trainer, after our previous horse Chillichoc took an early retirement for stud. Trained by Garry Lefoe Jr, this 3yo gelding had a couple of rough starts, and a few injuries during his first prep with us, but he’s since come out firing with a win over 1200m in January 2022 and will be entering a strong campaign during the 2022 Cup Carnival.

Pop Magic

Affectionately named Poppy, Pop Magic is only the second horse to be registered under up-and-coming trainer Ella Clarke. With only two runs under his belt for the ownership, he’s already a crowd favourite with a record of (2) 1-1-0 having broken his maiden on Territory soil. Poppy is currently only a 3-year-old, and we hope to have a lot of fun with this horse in the future.

Trained by Gary Clarke, Taciturn joined the family in 2018, and has been one of our incredible success stories. He came to us with 24 starts for 1-3-6 and retired on 65 starts for 8-11-12. Taciturn’s favourite distance is 1600m but has also won once over 1300m. Every time we thought Taciturn looked ready for the paddock, he always surprised us with a win, including his last win over 1600m in October 2021. Taci is now living his best life as a show horse competing against the likes of Chatauqua.

Patriot Day

After the success of Taciturn, our association was offered a share in Patriot Day, so of course we took it up! Under the guidance of Gary Clarke and the team, Patriot Day collected eight wins for us. Patriot Day is a short distance specialist, with wins over 1000m-1100m. These days you’ll find Patriot Day happily retired in the southern states.

Recording to Win

Winnie as she is affectionately known is a fabulous mare trained by Phil Cole. Purchased in 2019 as a 3yo filly, she has had four wins and a good handful of placings since her move to the Territory. Some of Recording to Win’s greatest achievements include wins over Darwin’s Cup Carnival in 2019 and 2020. Winnie is currently enjoying retired life in South Australia.
